July 31, 2014, www.organicconsumers.org | “The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) will phase out the use of genetically engineered (GE) crops to feed wildlife and ban neonicotinoid insecticides from all wildlife refuges nationwide by January 2016. The FWS decision, announced via internal memoranda obtained by Center for Food Safety (CFS), follows a longstanding grassroots, legal, and policy campaign by CFS and Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) to end the harmful practices. This announcement builds on a previously announced decision to eliminate neonicotinoid pesticides from refuges in the Pacific Region.”

Scientist switches from developing GMOs to breeding organic cotton

Jane Dever, organic cotton breeder at Texas A&M AgriLife Research

May 29, 2014, www.non-gmoreport.com | “It’s rare that a plant breeder goes from developing genetically modified crops at a major biotechnology company to breeding varieties for organic and non-GMO farmers. Jane Dever, associate professor at Texas A&M’s AgriLife Research and Extension Center, is unique in having done just that. As global cotton breeding manager for Bayer CropScience, Dever put GM traits into cotton plants. Now she focuses on keeping GM traits out of organic cotton varieties. ”

  • Gps Pms Consortium “Glad to see you are falling in line with their plans to keep you inactive while providing thw illusion you are doing something worthwhile…”
  • GoodNews FortheEarth~ “Dear Gps Pms Consortium, good question. I think one thing that it may accomplish is encourage people in other counties in Oregon to do what people just did in Jackson and Josephine Counties — ban the growing of GMO crops.”
  • Mushroom Jordan Weiss “Lets get the word out
    about how Jackson and Josephine
Counties have taken a stand against
    against “Bully Corporations” who are
more interested in profits than creating
    healthy products.”
  • Connie Ashby “I reckon a march is better than sitting around and continuing to eat their crap and allowing them to poison all living life”
  • Mushroom Jordan Weiss “The eight-hour
    workday, womens rights and the
Clean Water Act were not won by
    going to protests and NOT
    FOLLOWING UP WITH DIRECT
    ACTION. Yes, Connie-good point.

AND It is pretty ridiculous for people
to fly to attend a protest!! Go to a
    protest-in your town once-meet some
    people who you resonate with-and
    create small, efficient working groups:
to go to a protest year after year,
without engaging in direct action does
more harm than good. Also try not buying
    thse TOXIC PRODUCTS, which have
been causing illness-in my family and
    many others for generations.”
  • Gps Pms Consortium “See what is being done in Spokane with the LYL Coop farm at spokanelylcoopfarm.wordpress.com. There’s a answer to a hole heap of problems with one solution. That’s how some publicly make a differance.”
  • Gps Pms Consortium “Also was noticing a lot of paperproducts covered with what looks to be markers made of chemicals. How enviro frendly…..the hypocrisy is laughable. Better than sitting around, yes, only if it mattered…as in effected change. Real change or sloved rather than perpetuate the problem. In the corporate world there is nosuch thing as bad press, and all those signs that have corp names on them are free advertising. Think about that.”
  • Gps Pms Consortium “How about a three block long blitz garden protesting GMOS insted…better use of energy.”
  • Greg Reynolds “GMO’s are a good thing. Hating an entire technology because of one company (Monsanto) is like hating the wheel because of GM or energy because of BP.”
  • Gps Pms Consortium “Actually in essence we are all GMOs…all life is constantly being modified by the natural environment. Corporate GMO stuff is just a wag of the dog to keep people innefective.”
  • Gps Pms Consortium “Also….very very poor analogy. GM or BP isn’t poisoning our food with experimental tech. just our water and air.”
  • Gps Pms Consortium water….air….doesn’t that become food??
  • Kari Arnold“So does poop. What do you consider poison? Greg’s analogy was right on point. You dislike a company for its’ business practices, but you allow that company to represent a technology. Makes no sense at all. Like anything in life, technology can be used for good or for bad. It’s up to us to decide how to use it, not to abolish for being beyond our understanding. #knowledgeispower”
  • Gps Pms Consortium “The analogy only makes sense to a select demographic. Anyhoo we don’t engage in inetelectual masterbation over symantics. How about this…what have you do solve the job, food, climate, enviroment issues all at the same time? Our guess at the consortium is nothing real. Otherwise we would have heard about it. Back to saving the Planet for our part”
  • Gps Pms Consortium “and. the consortium dislikes ALL non employee owned corporations. Just being clear.
  • Kari Arnold “I work in agriculture trying to devise regional pest management programs to enhance sustainability for a better, safer food source, since you’re asking. And as for demographics, if you wanted to understand my argument, you would just have to read up on it. The unwillingness to see the other side only reflects your ignorance on the subject. Good luck screaming red herrings, they won’t last you forever.”
