Turkey Bans Import of Corn Distiller Grains Using GMOs

GMO Free USA, 12/27/14, “Turkey has put a stop to its soaring purchases of U.S. distillers’ grains, tightening up enforcement of regulations on genetically modified crops and banning further imports due to the inclusion of unapproved varieties. 3 shipments were turned away this week, and a 4th was diverted. Turkey is replacing the GM distillers’ grains, which are used for animal feed, with homegrown soy and is unlikely to reverse its decision. Another blow to our farmers and our economy as the 6th largest importer of U.S. GM distiller grains says NO to unapproved GMOs. And the cows don’t want them either.”

Hedgerow Cutting is Illegal From 1st of March Till 31st of August

Mind your cutting and pruning between 1 March and 31 Aug at least (later till the berries are well gone) – give biodiversity a change – spare a thought for those living in the hedgerows / natural fences, boundaries, wall creepers, etc.
HEDGEROW CUTTING IS ILLEGAL FROM 1ST OF MARCH TILL 31ST AUGUST
– PLEASE SHARE THIS MESSAGE

As many of you know, hedge cutting is illegal in Ireland from 1st of March till 31st of August. However, many people are either not aware of this regulation or decide to ignore it because of the almost non-existent enforcement of Ireland’s wildlife law.

Please help us share this message and remind your friends and family members that hedgerows play a very important role in our biodiversity and their cutting in closed season can be prosecuted.

If you witness or have information about illegal hedge cutting in your area, please let us know. We would really appreciate if you also reported any illegal activity to your local Garda station and local NPWS ranger and provide them with as many details as possible.

Please keep in mind that photographic or video evidence increases the chances of a successful investigation.

10 Environmental Victories and Triumphs of 2013

December 31, 2013, indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com | “With all the talk of rising temperatures, acidifying oceans and melting polar ice, it is hard to see the healthy trees for the forest, as it were. Yes, the emerald ash borer and the mountain pine beetle are making inroads, and yes, extreme weather is becoming the norm. But it’s important, too, to note the environmental triumphs and victories that tribes either helped engineer or benefited from, or both.”
