Robert Brothers ~ aw… shucks, you knew that’s what I want to hear, so thanks for being the bearer of good news. It’s that kind of difference that our ceremony may have made — not the whole storm, of course, but a few inches where we called it in.

Jamie Schectman The forecasts had called for rain and much higher snow levels, but alas it was cold enough to be all snow.

Deep, Heartfelt Prayers – with Tears – for Snow on All the High Mountains.
. . . . ~ “First Snows” Mountain Blessing, Mount Ashland, 11/23/14 ~ . . . .

Since last winter, when hardly any snow came in to bless our mountains, forests, and rivers, we have tried to do better.
May we be guided now, in this coming winter, to do better still,
to earn with our actions for each other, and for the climate that protects us all,
the blessings that have always been so beautifully given to all beings.

With our hearts, let’s keep on calling in the life-giving snow, every day!

Welcome Snow, Come on In,
Snow Today, and then Snow Again!

Keep on Snowing All Winter Long,
Keep on Snowing, Our Love is Strong!

Every year, members of our community in Ashland gather in a multi-cultural ceremony on the Mountain to bless the snow as it melts and becomes nourishing water for our valley. I have had the honor of representing the Vaishnava tradition in this gathering. And now we have gathered for the first time in the Fall as well, to call the snow and the waters back once again.
This has been one of the most deeply moving gatherings that I’ve been a part of in a long time. In my prayers for water, my heart was swallowed by the Ocean, and the overflow found it’s escape through my eyes.
In moments like these I’m eternally grateful to call this place my home, and to call you my Family.
I was inspired to write this on the way there and was blessed to share it in circle:
Every ray of sunlight, every grain of sand, every life-giving drop of water, every cell, within and without, is a gift. As are we, and every living soul with whom we share our home.
The great wheel turns and each of us take our honored place, to fall as rain again and again. Many different paths will guide our flow, to our inevitable union in the Great Ocean. Countless humble drops, now deep and powerful and seamlessly one.
And the water in a delicate snowflake is no less the ocean. And I am no less yourself. I call to this water, these humble little drops of us, to come cleanse and nourish our hearts and our lands. We are the ocean. The ocean is love. Love is welcome here.

~The “First Snows” Mountain Blessing Began Unexpectedly Last Night~
On a high ridge at the top of the Trinity watershed I found snow covering the ground and tree branches as far as I could see, glowing softly in the fog.
I hopped out of my truck, ate some snow, began singing, welcoming it in.
* May there be blessings / on all you snow crystals /
* on every snow mountain / where there’s been a drought /
* Please tell all your friends / to come here too /
* and we’ll bring the people on out!
Sunday, November 23, 1-3 pm at the Ski Area before it open for the season

Robert Brothers ~ Hmmm? I wonder if the same thing is happening now with Snow that once happened with the Sun.
One of the stories shared by many people all around the planet could be called “The Morning the Sun Went Down.”
In the beginning times, after coming up every morning for years, the Sun noticed that the people who had once enthusiastically celebrated the return of its warm light every day had now taken it so much for granted that they never even bothered to smile when it rose over the hills, and had even begun to complain about the glare.
Finally, after seeing this too many times, when the Sun saw it happening again one morning, it had enough, went back down and stayed there.
After a long day of darkness, people huddled together in the cold and tried to remember the songs that they had sung when the Sun first began to rise.
Finally, a little girl just began singing, “Sun, I love you!” and the Sun stuck its head over the horizon to see who she was.
Her name was Gaia, and she became known to all as Mother Earth.
