The City of San Diego is Suing Monsanto for Poisoning its Marine Life and Polluting its Bay

March 17, 2015, althealthworks.com | “The Monsanto Company produces a large volume of different chemicals, and many of them are also manufactured by competitors. But when it comes to the dangerously carcinogenic PCBs that have wreaked havoc on towns and waterways across the country, Monsanto stands (virtually) alone: 99 percent of PCB production in the United States was done by the agricultural giant according to this report from the Food & Water Watch.”

A new home for honeybees, just off the tarmac

March 08, 2015, www.pri.org | “The practice of maintaining beehives on airport property began in Germany a decade and a half ago and has spread, reaching Chicago, St. Louis and Seattle in the United States. The hives are typically kept in the buffer zone on the outskirts of the airport.”

America’s Second-Largest Retail Chain Is Cutting Antibiotics From Its Meat

March 6, 2015, www.takepart.com | “When it comes to the food industry, it would appear that good news comes in twos.  In February, Nestlé and Hershey announced in quick succession that they would be moving away from artificial flavors and ingredients in their candies. Now, just days after McDonald’s said it would phase antibiotics that are vital to human medicine out of its poultry supply chain, Costco announced Thursday that it plans to do the same—for chicken and other meats too.”

Vietnam PM says NO to animal cruelty in festivals

March 5, 2015, www.animalsasia.org | “In a direct response to our campaign to stop Vietnam’s pig slaughter festival – Vietnam’s Prime Minister has announced ‘old fashioned, superstitious and negative’ festivals will end.”

Juliann Adiastri Rubijono shared a photo to GoodNews FortheEarth‘s Timeline.

YOU DID THIS. Vietnam’s Prime Minister – in a direct response to our campaign to end the pig slaughter festival has said – no more cruel festivals.
His Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism has added:
“In a country rich in tradition and culture, we cannot have the image of a pig being brought to a village centre for hundreds of people to witness its head being cut off and its blood pouring out – this is not suitable with a peaceful and hospitable country like Vietnam.”
Read more here: http://bit.ly/18SP5kI
Our campaign, your support, the Vietnamese who voted in their tens of thousands in local media polls against the festival. Together we made it happen.
We will continue our work to ensure this is enforced. Remember – change does happen. People do listen. We could not stop this year’s festival but now it looks certain to be the last. Meanwhile the debate it has provoked will continue to serve the cause for years ahead.

Logging Industry Fails Again to Strip Threatened Seabird of Protections

'WIN! Court upholds protections for the endangered marbled murrelet and its nesting habitat, coastal old growth forests in the Pacific Northwest. http://ejus.tc/1GJ7XOe

This is the fifth time the timber industry has tried to challenge federal endangered species protections to gain access to logging the last and most mature old growth forests in the Pacific Northwest, and been rejected. Maybe this time they’ll realize that protecting biological treasures of old growth forests is a priority.

March 2, 2015, earthjustice.org | “The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals last Friday rejected yet another attempt by the timber industry to remove federal endangered species protections from the marbled murrelet, a unique coastal bird found in the Pacific Northwest. The appeal was the timber industry’s fifth attempt in the past decade to eliminate protections for the old-growth forests that marbled murrelets call home, despite undisputed scientific evidence which has shown that murrelets are continuing to disappear from the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California.”

  • Olivia EllisGood news, indeed. Wish Earthjustice could save our old growth forests in the George Washington National Park. It is being sold off in million acre parcels and offered free to fracking freaks at Dominion Power, somebody giving them permission to install 42 inch pipelines across the entire Appalachian Range, including all the headwaters to the midatlantic population! Talk about hard-to-cure-addictions. And criminals running loose!”
