June 18, 2015, www.gmwatch.org | “German beekeepers have called for a nationwide ban on cultivating GM plants, reports the German NGO keine-gentechnik.de. The call by the German Beekeepers Association (DIB), which represents almost 100,000 beekeepers, comes after Europe adopted controversial legislation enabling member states to opt-out of the cultivation of GMOs that have been approved at the EU level.”

GMO Free USA 100,000 German Beekeepers Call for GMO Crop Cultivation Ban: The German Beekeepers Association (DIB), which represents almost 100,000 beekeepers, is urging Agriculture Minister Christian Schmidt to implement a Germany-wide ban on cultivation. Bees fly up to eight kilometres in search of food, the DIB said, so a juxtaposition of GM crop cultivation zones and GMO-free zones within Germany would be “environmentally and agriculturally unacceptable”. “Bees know no borders,” the DIB added. There is no such thing as co-existence. GMO crops will inevitably contaminate non-GMO and organic crops. BAN GMOs

New Zealand Now Recognizes ALL Animals As Sentient Beings

June 3, 2015, www.trueactivist.com | “New Zealand has just set a great example to the world by recognizing what animal lovers have known forever- that our furry friends are as sentient as we are, and (obviously, dur) they have feelings just like we do. It’s a theme we have covered time and again here at True Activist, but this landmark ruling by NZ is the first time this shift in perception and policy has been extended to all animals, not just chimpanzees, orangutans, or dolphins.”

June 2, 2015, www.takepart.com | “Plant nurseries across the nation aren’t waiting for federal regulators to move on neonicotinoid pesticides, substances linked to mass die-offs of bees and other important pollinators.  Instead, as the public chorus to “save the bees” has grown from a fluttering to a loud buzz, many have taken the initiative to stop selling products that contain these chemicals.”

Victory! Australia Says No to Lion Hunting Trophies

March 18, 2015, www.care2.com | “According to the Department of the Environment, the measure was introduced in response to growing public concern about canned hunting, or “captive hunting,” where lions and other big game animals are bred specifically to be killed in an enclosure where they have no opportunity to escape. Animal advocates and conservationists have also raised concerns that lions and animals are often drugged and baited before being killed.”

 Greena Lachele Smith

“According to a coalition of wildlife advocacy organizations that recently petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to get African lions endangered species protection, in the past three decades their population in the wild has dropped by more than 50 percent, leaving potentially fewer than 32,000 remaining in the wild today.”

Even though hunter claim that canned hunting takes the pressure off of lions in the wild, numbers of wild lions continues to decrees.
