Environmentalism’s Next Generation

March 11, 2013, onpoint.wbur.org | “We’ve been talking about environmental issues for years.  Decades.  And the climate just keeps changing.  Now a new generation is now staring at potentially catastrophic effects of bad energy decisions hitting in their own lifetimes.”

“6000 signatures so far for the campaign for the University of California to divest from fossil fuels!
“This movement, as well as the general climate activist movement, is gaining a lot of momentum. Just this past week, the divestment campaign and Keystone XL pipeline opposition were featured on NPR’s On Point show with Tom Ashbrook. There was a panel of three activists: Maura Cowley, Energy Action Coalition’s Executive Director; Dorian Williams, a Keystone XL protester; and myself, Emily Williams. Feb 19, 2013, blogs.channel4.com | “Satellite imagery has a very important part to play in weather. It not only allows us to see what is happening right now, it also gives invaluable information that can be put into weather computer models to predict what is going to happen in the future.”

A small-town library in Colorado is lending more than just books. Patrons can now check out seeds and farm them. After the crops are harvested, the patrons return the seeds from the best fruits and vegetables so the library can lend them out to others.”

Tell the EPA: Immediately suspend the pesticide that’s killing bees!

act.credoaction.com | “A blockbuster study released last week by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), has for the first time labeled the pesticide clothianidin as an “unacceptable” danger to bees.1 Scientists have long thought that clothianidin is at least partially to blame for the alarming rate that bees have been dying off in the U.S. – nearly 30% of our bee population, per year, has been lost to so-called colony collapse since 2006.2

Good news follows the revelation of bad news:
— 177,000 People have signed this petition for the pesticide clothianidin to be banned, after a study by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), has for the first time labeled it as an “un, acceptable” danger to bees.
